What Good Looks Like: 5-7% a Week
PG gives concrete benchmarks from YC. A good growth rate is 5-7% per week. 10% a week means you're doing exceptionally well. 1% a week is a sign you haven't yet figured out what you're doing.
The compounding is what makes these small-sounding numbers wild. 1% weekly grows 1.7x in a year. 5% weekly grows 12.6x. 10% weekly grows 142x. A company making $1,000 a month growing 5% a week is making $25 million a month four years later.
This is why a few percentage points a week is the difference between a lifestyle business and a giant. Small weekly deltas are enormous annual ones.
Key idea
5-7% weekly growth is good, 10% is exceptional, 1% means you haven't found it yet. At 5% weekly, $1k/month becomes $25M/month in four years.
